So, I got this great machine…
I got my new computer today…Dell XPS 720, and it’s absolutely GIGANTIC…nifty kewl LED lights that come with a control panel to adjust the colors etc….I’ll post some pics tomorrow, this thing is absolutely gargantuan…50lbs of processing power…
So, I tried to get EQ2 installed from work before I left…didn’t finish downloading before the wife got to my office to pick me up so I go home and try to finish it….
…as I’m doing that, I’m installing stuff…
…start copying my music over from my regular computer…
…NIC card on the machine I use as a router stops functioning, over and over and over and over…at least it SEEMS to be freaking out…
…so it seems it’s either the NIC on my router or it’s my stupid Linksys switch…how much you want to bet it’s the switch?
To make a long story short…I couldn’t get into North Qeynos tonight after multiple full file scans etc, and the characters I could log into some of the models were wire frames only, no textures…seems all of the loss of connectivity screwed up some of the files for EQ2 and the patcher didn’t recognize it, so, since I can’t tell which were messed up myself, I guess I’m downloading and reinstalling EQ2 all over again…I could use some sleep anyways… 
I must say though, the performance is 10000000000000000000000 times better on this machine than my old one…I was a big ATI fan for a long time, but this nVidia card is just blowing away my x1650 by miles…everything is waaaaaaaaay sharper, more responsive (I’m sure some of it has to do with a dual core 2.66 ghz processor). The calibration tools that came with the nVidia software for my monitors was pretty good…overall I’m pretty pleased…if you want to get a good gaming machine and not have to fool with building it, the Dell XPS 720 is the way to go…
I’m wondering if the Rise of Kunark expansion is really all that harsh on systems, I think my old machine is just worn out because it’s flying now, I’ve never had this good of performance, and I bumped up a lot of the settings that usually drag me into the dirt anywhere…not a single issue so far…guess I’ll have to see what happens tomorrow when I get the game reinstalled.
