Wordjazz King, Ken Nordine
So long time ago, I used to listen to this guy, didn’t really know anything about him, all I knew was my room mate had a bunch of CDs by this guy named Ken Nordine.
I spent a lot of night listening to his hypnotic voice, telling tales and playing with words over a jazz back drop…
Eventually I didn’t live with the eclectic guy anymore and moved on…always tried to remember who the wordjazz guy I was listeing to was…Few months ago I ended up listening to NPR and they had a show about Ken Nordine. I thought to myself, that name is familliar…then I heard his voice and immediately was saying “zomg, I used to listen to his wordjazz stuff.”
So, today I was thinking about how I needed something to stimulate me a little bit, something a little different than whatever music is out there, and thought of him. I headed on over to Amazon and picked up a 2 CD compliation of his stuff from the 50’s and 60’s. Been thinking to myself all night, “wow, how kewl is that, I’m going to have some Ken Nordine in my collection finally.”
After dinner this evening, I decided to look him up on youtube…because you know, everyone ends up on youtube…and lo and behold, I guess he’s still very active and is putting stuff up there…
It seems he’s really gone way out with the visuals and the sounds and it’s quite delightful in a very strange, but very kewl way…enjoy some of these gems
