Carbonite, your all in one WoW Wonder Addon

So, I’ve been using the free version of Carbonite, called Carbonite Quest for World of Warcraft for a while. Today I decided to try subbing for a year since it was only $15. I have to say I’m more than impressed with the extras in the full version.

The biggest deals for me on getting the full version was the enhanced “Punks” mod and the harvesting locations on the map. I know there’s a few addons like what Punks does, Paranoia etc, but this is truly awesome…

Here’s some screenies of the Punks mod in action:

As you can see, it puts a big red circle on the minimap and on the regular map where an enemy is detected. It listens for people casting and alerts you when someone is near, or if someone else is using Carbonite, it will br0adcast punk data to everyone else. In 20 minutes I tracked down and killed 5 people using Punks. It’s truly awesome if you’re on a PvP server.

The gatherer portion of Carbonite shows you where the most common harvesting locations are for herbs and ore. Harvesting is a breeze, and so much faster when you know the areas to head to. Here’s a couple shots of the gathering addon:

In addition to these 2 fantastic features, it also has a quest history tracker (which is also not in the free one). The ability to integrate Blizzard’s minimap that is up in the right corner of the screen into Carbonite’s minimap (depicted in the above screenshots) and the maps do something similar to google earth with overlays of the terrain as you zoom in (which isn’t as detailed in the free version).

Carbonite also includes many macros for battlegrounds, you can right click on any of the “objectives” on the battleground mini map it has and to send info/text about that objective to battlegound chat. You can right click a base in Arathi Basin and issue things like “Help at Lumbermill – Horde: 0:40″ or  by using a key combination and clicking issue something to the effect of “Incoming Farm: 4″  etc. I just wish they would put in a couple macros for annoucing stuff in Warsong Gulch, like “Defend Horde Flag” or “Defend Flag Carrier – Mid Field” or something.

There’s a number of other reasons to get this addon as well. I highly recommend it. In combination with Bartender4 I was actually able to emulate what I liked from EQ2’s interface as well. Here’s an example of what Bartender does for you:

As you can see, you can have a bunch of action bars, in different configurations, and positions, even different sizes. It also handles XP and faction bar stuff as well. I highly recommend it for those who would rather have multiple action bars as opposed to using the keyboard to scroll through them. You can configure the bars to behave like the default and switch to different action bars with a key combo. The only thing about Bartender is you need to turn off the original action bars from the regular WoW interface options, because they will still display, making a little bit of a mess :P
